The DRIBBLE
April 2013

The Corner Flag
by Chris McCune, VP Novato Youth Soccer
As the weather begins to warm up, life begins to
get a little crazier. Most families this time of year
are juggling baseball/softball, swim team, lacrosse, dance recitals, and end of the year school events. This time of year takes a lot of patience and communication. When you are able to sit down,
relax and think about the fall, don’t forget it is time to sign up for soccer! NYSA online registration is currently open and runs through May 31, after
that the price goes up.

It may seem a little early, however It is important
for us to get the registrations in, so we can plan
the fall season effectively. How many volunteer coaches do we need? How many soccer balls
for practices? How much field space we will use? Planning takes time, so having the information to make decisions, helps us to provide the players
with all of the tools they need for a successful season.

Coach of the Month
Brian Uyesugi
Those who have coached on the same
field as Coach Brian will immediately notice how much his players love playing for him and his kind, gentle, and very effective approach. Brian has a wealth of knowledge about soccer and coaching, and is always willing to share with other coaches. He has a knack for drastically improving his players every season, while creating a very enjoyable experience for every one of them. A good number of his players have moved on to play select soccer and to no surprise!

Brian’s true motivator for coaching soccer is to participate and share in the experience of an activity that his daughter, Audrey truly enjoys. Motivated by watching his players begin as individuals and come together as a team, as the season progresses, gives Brian a great sense of accomplishment. What’s interesting and surprising about Coach Brian is that he himself, has never played soccer. When he began coaching seven years ago, Brian took it upon himself to learn as much as possible about the game. Visiting the library, he checked out as many books and kids soccer dvd’s as possible, to learn everything he could about the sport. That’s dedication!

Brian will be coaching his daughter’s team at the U12 level this season. Welcome back to another year Brian! NYSA salutes you!
